McCaren Interiors were appointed to transform the Restaurant and Hospitality Training Restaurant at City College Plymouth. This once tired, institutional space required a confident injection of texture, warmth and colour to create an inviting and exciting Restaurant and Bar. The new interior had to ensure existing customers were comfortable, as well as attracting new customers to the college site giving them a genuine restaurant experience.
It was paramount to make the spaces work functionally as a training restaurant. Practicality and durability informed the arrangement of spaces and furniture and the specification of high quality contract grade materials. Large glass facades to the existing restaurant allowed plenty of natural light into the space, but required colour coordinated blinds to control solar glare. Suspended acoustic ceiling panels, subtly illuminated around their perimeter were used to break up the space in the ceiling plane and add interest. Wall spaces were broken up with the use of textured papers, and the Bar combined natural timbers with reflective decorative metal surfaces.
Texture, colour and controlled lighting were used to create an intimate eating environment for the customer. Working closely alongside the Clients we were able to create a functional hospitality training space with a luxurious high street restaurant atmosphere.
