mccaren are a creative, studious, and experienced practice, working in the fields of architecture, interior design, and disabled access.
Established in 1992, we are architects and designers with a wealth of local knowledge and experience. Our diverse portfolio includes new houses, residential extensions, commercial housing developments, and community facilities; in locations across Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall.
We are committed to getting the best out of every project for our clients, paying attention to the unique characteristics of each individual site. Our dedication and attention to detail has helped us to gain a reputation for succeeding where others fail by achieving planning permission on challenging sites.
Our breadth of experience belies our compact size - we are a small practice by choice but we punch above our weight, with projects ranging in value from 30k to 3million. Our modest size creates a strong team work ethic, promoting creativity in design and thoroughness in project management.

Robin McCaren, 
B.Sc., RIBA, NRAC Consultant.
Architect and Director.
Formed McCaren Design Architects in 1992, having worked in senior positions in a number of local practices. Previously worked in Hastings, London, Portsmouth & Northern Ireland. Experience on a wide range of projects including Residential, Educational, Commercial, Community, Healthcare, Leisure and Industrial. Consultant Member of the National Register of Access Consultants, with considerable experience in Access Audits, Access Statements and disability-related expert witness work.
Andrew J Paterson,
BA, Dip Arch, RIBA.
Architect and Associate.
Joined McCaren Design in 2001 having worked in London and a number of local practices. Experience on a wide range of projects including Residential, Retail, Educational, Commercial, Leisure and Industrial.
Fleur Powell,
BA, Interior Architecture and Design (Hons).
Interior Designer and Architectural Assistant.
Joined McCaren Design in 2003 having worked in a leading Interior Design Practice in London. Experience on Residential, Commercial, Healthcare and Leisure projects.
Hilary Phillips,
Office Manager / Administrator.
Joined McCaren Design in 2005 having worked in a similar position for a firm of designers based in London. Hilary provides the administrative and financial backup to the practice and deals with all PR and Marketing activities. Currently studying part-time for PHD in Architecture History.
